Topic: Africa Special: African Nations Cup 2004 > GROUP D
scenarios before Group D final group matches
Take a look at the possible scenarios in the final group matches. Who will advance when?
|
Morocco will qualify for the quarter-finals with any result except from losing to South Africa by a margin of four goals or more and at the same time Nigeria beating Benin.
Nigeria will qualify
- if they defeat Benin
- if they draw with Benin and in the same time South Africa does not defeat Morocco
- if they lose to Benin by less than 5 goals and in the same time South Africa does lose to Morocco
South Africa will qualify
- if they defeat Morocco by four goals or more
- if they defeat Morocco and Nigeria can not defeat Benin
- if they draw with Morocco and Nigeria loses to Benin
Benin will qualify if
- they defeat Nigeria by a margin of 5 goals or more and at the same time South Africa loses to Morocco
Winning the group:
will be vital to avoid Cameroon in the quarter finals and have Algeria instead.
- Morocco will win the group by a draw or win
or not losing by more than three goals margin and Nigeria not winning against Benin
- Nigeria will win the group by defeating Benin and South Africa defeating Morocco (but not by a five goals higher margin than Nigeria over Benin)
- South Africa by a miraculous high win over Morocco or a 4 margin and Nigeria not winning against Benin
- Benin cannot win the group
I hope I got it all right...
If you take a look at this on the special properties of group matches companies at tournaments, you will find a nice collection of scenarios.
