Topic: Africa Special: African Nations Cup 2004 > GROUP A
Tunisia - Guinea 1:1, DR Congo - Rwanda 0:1
minute by minute: this has been the live ticker coverage
|
Feb 1 1300 GMT Tunisia - Guinea 1:1 (final score)
parallel: DR Congo - Rwanda 0:1 (final score)
Before - Tunisia are already qualified for the quarter finals. They will win the group with a draw or win against Guinea
- If Guinea beat Tunisia they will win the group
- If Guinea lose to Tunisia they will still qualify if Rwanda does not beat Congo DR in the parallel match
- If Rwanda beat DR Congo and Guinea lose to Tunisia by two goals or more, Rwanda are qualified
- If Rwanda beat DR Congo by two goals or more and Guinea lose to Tunisia, Rwanda are qualified
- If Rwanda beat DR Congo by one goal difference and Guinea lose to
Tunisia by one goal difference, it will depend on goals scored: the
team will advance in whose match are more goals scored. (for example
Rwanda win 2:1, Guinea lose 0:1, Rwanda will be qualified)
- if the results are the same (for example Rwanda win 1:0, Guinea lose 0:1), drawing lots will determine who will advance
I hope I got it all right...
1st half -the stadium seems not half filled
-Ben Achour is back for Tunisia, Jaziri and Santos in attack. Guinea without Youla and Mansare, Bandoura and Abdulkarim Sylla play instead
-('1) A rough late
challenge by Guinea #13 against Madhebi who has to be carried off ant
treated. the referree has not seem anything
-('5)('6)('7)attack
rules and defences look odd: Guinea with a shot against the crossbar
(#20 Sylla) and another attempt wide only by centimers. A minute later
Jaziri and Santos are through, 2 against 1. Jaziri is alone in front of
the keeper, tries to dance him out, stumbles, falls
-('15) Guinea look very vulnerable against through balls. A long
perfect pass by Bouazizi finds Santos who first races away from his
defender but the Guinean can catch up eith him just before he scores
-('17) Guinea are lucky that Santos is ruled offside at a cross from an indirectly executed corner kick.
-Guinean defence at the moment does not look like they could stop Tunisia at all.
-Seems they will have to rely on their striking force score today
-Tunisia look relieved of the pressure they felt in the first matches. they play much better so far.
-Guinean #14 N'gom (Camara) sees yello for a very rough challenge in midfield
-('25) optimistic fre kick from Titi Camera from more than 30 meters, powerful but over the bar
-meanwhile a slight dominance of the Congo DR is reported in the other match
-Here at Rades it is a less entertaining phase of bad passing, adjusted defending, and uninspired attacking
-('34) The Tunisian keeper has some problems with a dangerous Guinean corner kick
-('39) The referee cautions a player on each other side, when a second time before a corner little scuffles break out
-('41) Tunisia: through ball (by Santos?) on Jaziri but he seems too
slow in thinking today. Before he shoots he is caught up with
-('42)('43) Tunisia apply 120 seconds of pressure which prove the
Guinean defence instabile, some good situations but not converted into
a clearcut chance
halftime 0:0
What looked like goals guarantueed in the first minutes, has become a
rather dull encounter. Still Guinea are always under threat to
cencede a goal. It might be that both teams will become more and more
careful in the course of the match, because a draw would suit both to
some extent.
-in the parallel match a number of half chances for Rwanda, but the
biggest opportunity for Congo DR, when an unchallenged header from
close range clashed against the goalpost of the open goal
2nd half -('46) Tunisia: Trabelsi is replaced. He had looked a little injured after a foul in the first half.
-('50) Tunisia: Jaziri gets a little push as he enters the penalty
area, the referee does not think it is enough for a foul. But in
consequence Jaziri collides with the keeper who has to be treated
-('54) This time it is Guinean Feindouno who has to be treated in a match of relatively many injuriy treatments
-('58) Tunisia: the first chance at all in the second
half: a one-two between Ben Achour and Santos and Ben Achour dances out
the last defender and fires into the triangle from 14 meters - 1:0
-('62) Guinea are lucky: Santos goes down in the penalty area after a collision but the referee waves on
-Guinea are lucky a second time: Rwanda score against Congo but it is ruled offside
-Mansare has come on for Sylla in the meantime
-('67) Guinean #9 Bangoura sees yellow for diving
-parallel match 0:1 Rwanda #14('73)
-if the scorelines remain the same, drawing lots will be necessary!
-('72) Guinea look nervous: like in the match against Rwanda all defenders are on the goalline instead with their attackers
-('73) Guinea appeal for a penalty after a little push against Camera,
but like the scenes before on the other side the referee waves on
-the Tunisian defenders effectively control the Guinean
striking force. Yahia seems injured after a Mansare push. Mansare has
made several late pushes since he has come on, possibly a too much of
motivation.
-('80) Guinea: finally long expected Youla comes in, Feinduno is replaced
-('83) the Guinean keeper races well alerted out to intercept a through ball
-Guineans look like carrying stones with them
-('84) but a blunder in the Tunisian defence suddenly allows Titi Camera to score unchallenged from 12 meters - 1:1
-('88) Guinea:Dramane in for goalscorer Titi Camera, Tunisia replace Jaziri by #3
-('90) 4 minutes injury time
-the parallel match is over, Rwanda win 1:0, Guinea could even concede one goal now, drawing lots is not possible anymore
final score 1:1
The matches in this group have shown what role psychology plays in
football. Tunisia much more confident than in the matches in which they
had been under pressure. Guinea obviously suffered from the pressure,
especially after Tunisia and Rwanda had scored. They can do much better.
1. Tunisia 2. Guinea 3. Rwanda 4. Congo DR
