Rwanda survive Greek Tradegy.

Shades of Greece manifested in Rwanda's 2-1 loss to Africa Cup hosts Tunisia yesterday in the opening game of the tournaments 24th edition.

Tunisia's win on Saturday ended a 38-year duck when they finally won an opening Africa Cup game.

Their previous opening win was against Ethiopia whom they beat 4-0 on November 12 in Tunis, the first time they hosted the tournament.

The encouraging news yesterday was the "The Wasps" as Rwanda are called by their adoring fans, did not lose by such a heavy margin.

And unlike Greece who left USA back in 1994 without a goal, first-timers Rwanda did score in their opening match.

But not before they accrued a hideous five yellow cards and a send-off after conjuring a first half equaliser out of the blue from a free kick.

Greece had two yellows in their opening game and eight in total during the World Cup then but thankfully no sent-offs.

Rwanda meanwhile, looked overwhelmed by the whole atmosphere-especially in the first half and bravely tried to be mentally strong and but were let down by a very poor midfield.

The good news is we got to see Power Dynamos' John Lomami, though it took an hour and 7 minutes before he got to kick the ball.

The Power Dynamos and Zambia's top scorer last year came to varying effect playing deep.
Lomami also got his hands dirty with a couple of good defensive tackles to show us an attribute the Power striker has not displayed in his three seasons at Arthur Davies.

He almost also created the equaliser for APR striker Olivier Karekezi 12 minutes from time but the latter scuffed his chance on the breakthrough.

We will be rooting for Rwanda thanks to the presence of "one of ours" and are also looking forward to a better game from them against Guinea in Bizerte on January 28.
